They were good friends and comrades in arms before the murder of Duncan. Both Banquo and Macbeth are hailed as war heroes. Things actually begin to change when the witches first appear to them. Macbeth is enraptured with their message of good fortune but Banquo is suspicious both about the witches and Macbeth.
