What are Macbeth's visions and hallucinations?
Remember that Macbeth's visions don't cause his insanity. His insanity causes his illusions.
He sees a dagger. He also cannot sleep. His guilt is causing some mental breakdown. So, unable to think for himself, he turns to the witches (dumb choice, wouldn't you say?) for thoughts.
