Lord of the Flies

Would you consider Piggy being the symbol of Lord of the Flies or would you consider the beast being the symbol?

Would you consider one of the boys (Piggy) being the symbol of Lord of the Flies or would you consider the beast being the symbol of Lord of the Flies?

Piggy certainly is not a symbol for the Lord of the Flies. Piggy represents, among other things, knowledge. The "beast" represents the Lord of the Flies. The beast is the evil and fear within the boys that manifests itself in the pig's head on the stick. The Lord of the Flies means Beelzebub or the Devil. Golding thinks the capacity for evil lies within each boy and humanity.

The beast is the symbol of the novel.
