why is Ralph constantly standing on his head?

This is early in the book, I think even chapter 1. I don't recall him constantly standing on his head, but I know he does at one point. Ralph is a kid enjoying the idea of freedom with no parents. He stands on his head, dives in water....as a child might on an island with no adults.
