Why does Golding choose Simon for the conversation with the sow on the stick (Lord of the Flies) in chapter 8?

Simon is the only boy who understands the nature of the Beast; he knows the beast lives within all the boys. So, it is fitting that Simon comes face to face with his own darkness. Only Simon has empathy and spiritual sense to understand the metaphor that he experiences.
