Ralph tries to be realistic. Ralph insists there isn't a beast and if there is, they could not kill it anyway. Jack asserts that he and his hunters will kill whatever beast there is. This makes Jack look strong and Ralph look weak in the eyes of most of the boys. Jack begins to usurp Ralph's power over the boys.
