What do they mean to the different characters?

The signal fire means rescue, especially to Jack. The rest of the boys see fire for its warmth, safety, and cooking. Piggy needs his glasses to see; the others want it to start fire. The Pig's head on the stick represents the Devil to Simon: Simon is Golding's Christ-figure. Simon realizes the evil is actually within each of the boys.
