There are so many symbols in this book. I think the pig’s head on the stick is of special significance. It manifests itself to Simon as the Devil. It represents the darkness that lurks in mans' or boys' heart. When left it its own progression, this darkness envelops the soul. This, Golding believes, is the true nature of mankind. Each boy symbolizes a part of Western civilization. Piggy represents knowledge, Simon is Golding's Christ-figure, Ralph represents responsible leadership, Jack represents fascism and evil....
