why does simon free the lines of the parachute from the rocks?

Simon frees the pilot from the lines out of respect. Golding describes the pilot being caught and manipulated by the "wind's indignity." Simon is the only boy on the island who can see beyond the rotting corpse. Simon feels the humanity of the pilot needs to be sacred; he needs to be put to rest.
