Golding illustrates how mob mentality and the security of acceptance can corrupt even the most honorable person. Ralph's biggest criticism of Jack and his group is their hunting at the expense of other important things. Ralph gets caught up in the frenzy when the boys kill the pig. For a few moments he feels accepted by the majority instead of being at odds with them.
