At this point Ralph is once again challenging Jack's authority, Unfortunately all the cards are stacked against Ralph. A storm is brewing and to deflect the boys' fears, Jack orders them to dance around the fire. This communal spectacle of savagery gives the boys a sense of security. It also turns the boys into one primal organism unfettered by the old social (and British) ideas of civility.
