Lord of the Flies

Lord of the Flies Q.

“They had never had an assembly this late before. That was why the place looked so different” (p. 77). Because it is late and gets darker as the meeting goes on, fear becomes a primary factor. If it had been the middle of the day, it might have been different. As the chapter goes on, explain how fear was an important role in how the conversation went and how everyone was feeling. Explain how the fear was important….

Fear is always an underlying motif throughout the narrative. There is fear of the beast, fear of the dark, fear of the unknown.... While ralph pleads with the boys to be rational about fear, Jack uses fear to exploit the boys' vulnerabilities.
