What does Simon mean when he says, “What else it there to do” at the beginning of Chapter 9?

Simon knows that, in the end, fear must be faced. Simon of course thinks about ten levels beyond the boys. He knows they must face the internal or external evil, whatever it is. Simon tells the boys that they must climb the mountain and face whatever "beast" lies at the top.
