Jack immediately attempts to present himself as powerful and mature. How does he demonstrate this to the group?

\ Jack uses his assertiveness and powers of manipulation to gain control of the group. I would not call this maturity more than a need to be in control. Jack offers traits which most of the other boys like. Jack tells them what they want to hear and he tells them what to do: the boys want this very narrow and simple leadership.
