As evening falls, the boys start climbing up the mountain once more, and Ralph realizes that they won't be able to return to the beach until morning. He does not want to leave the littluns alone with Piggy all night. Ralph is mature enough to know Piggy's limits.Jack mocks Ralph for his concern for Piggy. Ralph shows even more maturity when he asks a key question to Jack. He asks Jack, "Why doo you hate me?" Of course Jack lacks the maturity to know why.
