The storm is a huge part in Chapter Nine. The boys are competely immersed in an unnatural frenzy when the storm creeps up, and Simon becomes a part of everything they fear. They don't know who they are attacking, and they are fooled by what they see. Even when the high winds dislodge the dead parachutist, whose body blows across the island, they continue to believe their worst fears..... the fear of the beast..... of the unknown.
