Piggy's glasses are the only representation of technology in the novel. Ralph and Jack used his glasses to start the initial fire. Piggy has a depth of perception the other characters lack, and he "sees" more clearly than anyone else. Piggy's ideas are rational, although they are overlooked more often than not. Piggy believes in the power of the conch, he supports order over chaos, and when Ralph decides that maybe Jack should take over, Piggy responds, “If Jack was chief he’d have all hunting and no fire. We’d be here till we died.” (Page 125)
