How do the symbols in lord of the flies explain human nature?

This all depends on which symbol you are referring to, there are many. I think the pig’s head on the stick is of special significance. It manifests itself to Simon as the Devil. It represents the darkness that lurks in mans' or boys' heart. When left it its own progression, this darkness envelops the soul. This, Golding believes, is the true nature of mankind.
