Simon thinks the Candle Buds are beautiful. Jack slashes at the buds and cuts them. Simon is gentle and empathetic by nature. Jack is aggressive and violent by nature. Jack likes to prove that he is tough to the other boys. Simon has no need to prove anything to the other boys.
