Lord of the Flies

Golding, in comparing Ralph and Jack says "They waled along, two continents of experience and feeling, unable to communicate". What do you think this means? Are they getting along?

Jack and Ralph are both leaders but interpret their responsibilities in very different ways. Jack wants to be a dictator with unlimited power and Ralph wants a functioning democratic- like society. They each want to lead but have little in common.
