The boys continue to travel across the island to the mountain, and they stop to eat. Ralph notices how long his hair is and how dirty and unclean he has become. The boys have moved away from the old world. In British military school, they would have to be impeccably clean and groomed. The boys have regressed into a state of dirtiness and poor hygiene. Their sense of their old identities are fading away.
