Most of the boys tire of tire of Ralph's rules and sense of responsibility. They long for the excitement and chaos of Jack's leadership. Ralph becomes exasperated at Jack, accusing him of not wanting to be rescued but the boys have long since abandoned the motivation to try to be rescued. Ralph is feeling his power slip away to Jack.
