what is the beast from air? how is it appropriate that the boys mistake it for a beast- what connection does it have with the novel's themes, and what does it symbolize?

The beast from the air is a dead pilot in a parachute. The boys are already scared of a beastie so they interpret the shadow coming from the ocean as a beast from the sea. They think it has claws and sharp teeth. Certainly this is a manifestation of the boys' fears. The dead Pilot is a symbol of man's failure and destruction.
