Chapter 12: Irony and symbolism related to fire.

Briefly discuss the symbolism and irony related to fire as developed in this chapter.

The irony is that the fire burns the island down. The boys would have died of thirst and hunger within days. This final fire does however save them. The fire is big enough for the ship to see and the boys get rescued. The fire represents the incantation of a literal Hell that piggy first noticed in chapter 2.
