Simon thinks on a whole different level than all the other boys. Even Ralph and Piggy can't think that metaphorically or abstractly. Simon claims the beast is only inside of themselves. THe others of course merely laugh at what they do not understand. I love the line, "However Simon thought of the beast, there rose before his inward sight the picture of a human at once heroic and sick." Jack finally pulls a coup in front of everybody.He openly derides Ralph and asks for a re-vote.
