Sorry this is only a short answer space. Here is one quote:

They obeyed the summons of the conch, partly because Ralph blew it, and he was big enough to be a link with the adult world of authority; and partly because they enjoyed the entertainment of the assemblies.

This quote gives us a glimpse into the boys' psyche. The boys are attracted to the assembly for two reasons. They see Ralph as a natural leader because he is big enough to represent an adult. The assemblies are seldom taken seriously. Most of the boys are too immature to gauge their importance and are easily distracted by the slightest.
