Day 3 - Reading Assignment, Questions, Vocabulary

Students read chapters 6-8.

Daily Lesson Objectives

  • 1. Reading well: continuing to track themes; examining plot development (especially as Simon hallucinates, the beast becomes a concrete issue in the form of the parachute corpse, and Ralph’s authority continues to be challenged); recognizing growing significance of Simon’s character and his experience.

    2. Thinking well: using the discussion questions to gain clearer vision of how rapidly the group of boys may descend into violence and chaos.

    3. Speaking well: developing oral skills through vocabulary development, dramatic reading, and group discussion.

    4. Listening well: assessing the dramatic reading; developing a taste for good grammar and strong diction.

    5. Understanding: seeing how themes of irrational fear, leadership/power conflict, and violence affect the boys.
