Like Water for Chocolate

Why does the narrator say that Tita was crying as she was being born, and what does that comment tell us about women's roles in the story?

Tita is born in the kitchen surrounded by famiiar food smells like onions. This foreshadows Tita's, and most other women's roles, as cooks for men.
