How does Pi's faith help him survive?

Give 2 examples of how Pi's faith or religion helped him survive his ordeal at sea?

At one level his faith helps him establish a routine in the passing days; ritual helps his life seem less bizarre and more usual. He also believes that each day will turn out well and is thankful for prayers answered when he "gets" the things he needs and prays for.
