Explain how life can be a peephole into something bigger?

Pi loses his will to live because he is overwhelmed by the immense universe around him, he doesn't see himself as having anything worth living for. None-the-less, in the dawn of a new day, he sees that his small "peephole" of a life is actually an important part of the universe around him, and he regains his will to live.
