How does Doctor Lessing treat Guido when they meet in the camp?

Though Doctor Lessing is friends with Guido, he does nothing to help him, and until Guido breaks the silence, the doctor simply treats him like any other prisoner. Lessing is not outraged at the treatment of his friend, and he does nothing to stop it.
