As a minister, King believes in proactive resistance combined with nonviolent protest. He believed that religious freedom and personal freedom are connected. King taught that “A just law is a man-made code that squares with the moral law or the law of God.” An unjust law, on the other hand, “is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law.” King’s call for justice was guided by his religious convictions, as well as the liberty to act on those convictions.
