why did helping mr.farnsworth put stacey, cassie, chirstopher john and little man in trouble?

Mr. Farnsworth is a government agent that tells the Turners that he must plow up his cotton. He was beaten up for a reason and helping Mr. Farnsworth would anger the other sharecroppers who were against Mr. Farnsworth.
