What lesson about loyalty does the tale about sir bedivere and the sword suggest?

Arthur has to tell Bedivere to throw the sword in the lake three times before he actually does it. Sure bedivere figured throwing the sword would be a waste but he didn't count on the lady of the lake taking Arthur to Avelon. If he had done it to begin with Arthur might have had a better chance of being healed.
