Different tribes were alined with different European forces. In every case, the natives were portrayed as having vastly more knowledge than their European counterparts. THey were able to fight, eat, heal, and survive much more effectively than the white man. At times they are portrayed as savage but then this was a savage land. The continent was their home and the white soldiers often hopelessly incompetent and relying on their native allies for not only warfare but survival.
