This is actually a very detailed question for this short space. Generally Hawk-Eye is a romantic hero who transcends the realism of what life and people would have actually been like. He sees nature as spiritual and has a mythic sense of self-reliance in the face of overwhelming odds. Even the antagonists like Magua have a romantic sense to them steeped in the mystery of nature and Native believe. The "savage" Indian and the "stoic" Indian are also very much a part of the romantic vision of this book.
