Why didn’t Mia & Sebastian end up together?

I watched La La Land for the first time and I was heartbroken at the end that they didn't end up together. Normally you watch the movies and the two lovers have the struggles, their separation but they always end up back to each other. Why do you think these two were different?

I think the stress of trying to make it in Hollywood was just too much for their relationship. The pursuit of their individual dreams takes all their energies with nothing left for their relationship.
