King Lear's and his three daughters

I think Lear wanted to relinquish his responsibilities. He knew there was a time for everything and he felt that his age was advanced enough that it was time to retire.
Know that we have divided
In three our kingdom: and 'tis our fast intent
To shake all cares and business from our age;
Conferring them on younger strengths, while we
Unburden'd crawl toward death.
