Both of these characters are similar because, in the end, they are betrayed by their children. Both were once powerful and then stripped of their power and identity. Lear is a little different in that he willingly gives away his power to his daughters : something that the fool points out to Lear is rather "foolish". Glouceter on the other hand is manipulated by Edmund and doesn't see his mistake until it is too late. Both men a "blind" in a sense to the darker forces at play in their lives.
