how did lear finally realise which of his daughters loved him most

Ah....... he always knew which of his daughters loved him best; he just wanted flattery, and when Cordelia didn't give him the flattery he desired........ he punished her because for some reason he wanted more than the knowledge he held in his heart; he wanted public affirmation. In the end, they're reunited, but the story is indeed tragic.
