The story of an hour

What emotion overcomes her later when she is alone in her room? How does it eventually also prove to be ironic?

Mrs. Mallard eventually shows her joy at the news of her husband's death. The irony is that she is so excited that her heart condition is made worse and she dies. Ironically people think she died of a broken heart.
