what proves to be ironic about the opening sentence of the story?

The first sentence reads,
Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband's death.
The irony is that Mrs. Mallard actually dislikes her husband and her weak heart actually will be stressed but out of excitement and not sadness.
