why does cassius begin to lose faith in the epicurean philosophy

I think that before the murder of Caesar, Cassius felt he was master of his own destiny( a staple of epicurean philosophy). When he was closer to his death, he figured out that things really didn't go according to plan. He felt that there was perhaps greater forces at work outside his control.
