Julius Caesar

Act III Scene i

In Act III, Scene 1, Lines 227-243, Shakespeare includes the tense exchanges among Brutus, Cassius, and Mark Antony immediately following the murder of Caesar. The dialogue between Brutus and Cassius reveals Cassius's deep distrust for Antony's motives and his fear of the consequences of allowing Antony to speak publicly about Caesar at his funeral.

Analyze Brutus's overconfidence in his ability to control what Antony would be allowed to say at the funeral

I think that Brutus was idealistic but underestimated the motivations of different conspirators’' motivations. Brutus cannot control Antony's ambitions and clever rhetorical skills. All the conspirators, including Antony, had their own ambitions after Caesar's death.
