Brutus won'y come out with the truth of what's bothering him. Portia arrives and tells him he has left her bed and given her unkind looks. She begs him to tell her why he is so upset. Brutus finally agrees to tell her what is concerning him. Brutus does love his wife. Confiding in one's wife was considered an act of respect and love.
