How do Irene and the narrator occupy their time?

Irene takes care of the house and knits. She also prepares dinner.

The narrator spends a lot of time watching his sister, is in charge of preparing lunch, and also enjoys looking through his father's stamp collection. He's been cut off from his books; reading is something he misses.
