Why was Professor Lidenbrock upset at the beginning of Chapter 33? How does his mood reflect on his goal-oriented mind-set?

Axel’s head smarts from his dream of the day before. His uncle seems fretful, annoyed. The sea is much larger than the men had anticipated and Lidenbrock has no interest in wondering whether or not Saknussemm made it along this way. I think this reflects the enormity of the challenge they have taken on and the odds of their success being rather slim.
