They enter another tunnel, "This time illumined in a most singular manner." THey come upon a great "shark-crocodile." Then they see a gigantic "Ape Gigan". THe two beasts fight each other. But wait! Axel is just dreaming, back to the raft. All they have is a morsel of dried meat between the three of them. All of them are pretty despondent about the trip.
