Why did Paul Revere and Billy Dawes ride to Lexington on the night of April 18, 1775? Why did they join Doctor Prescott and attempt to go on to Concord? Did they accomplish their goal?

Revere and Dawes rode to Lexington to warn Adams and Hancock the British troops were on the march, and to alert the Minutemen it was time for action. They joined Prescott after meeting him on the road and headed for Cocord. Revere was captured and Dawes lost his horse, but Prescott was successful in warning Concord of the impending attack.
