Describe Johnny’s position and his behavior in the Lapham household at the beginning of the novel. What does his behavior reveal about his character?

Johnny always felt he needed to fight to stay in the household. After his accident, he felt like a useless invalid. Johnny never really knew his purpose while living at the Lapham house. He was arrogant and self absorbed. It isn't until he strikes out on his own that he is humbled and finds his place in life.
